We recently had the pleasure of interviewing Preston Rawlings, Director of Operations at Center for Sight in Las Vegas, to explore how his practice has benefited from partnering with CoFi.


Center for Sight Nevada has mainly used CoFi to facilitate payments from patients to their practice and the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) during one easy payment event. This approach has enhanced cost transparency for surgeries and significantly improved the overall patient experience.


1. What challenges or issues were you facing that led you to consider adopting CoFi?

We wanted to simplify the payment process for our patients by allowing them to pay all parties at once and eliminate any confusion about the total cost of their surgery. Even though we provided clear information about the total costs and fees they could expect from both the surgery center and us, the process was still overwhelming for many patients.


Patients could easily forget that they’ve got a payment due at the ASC, leading to unnecessary stress. For others, the complexity of the payment process negatively impacted their overall experience. So, a simple, one-time payment event without having to think about it again – that’s been very helpful for our patients.


2. How has CoFi made a difference in your practice?

Patients appreciate only having to submit payment once, and our accounting team is spending far less time chasing down payments and confirmations from the surgery center and vice versa. Really, truly, the biggest impact we’ve felt is a decrease in administrative time.


3. What are the features you like most about CoFi?

It’s simplicity stands out the most. It’s one payment event for the patient, and they don’t have to expect or encounter another one down the road. So, we go over instructions during their pre-op visit and take the payment right then and there. Then all the patient has to do is show up for surgery. Patients don’t want to be thinking about payments on the day of their surgery. They just want a good experience – they want to show up and leave without having to do anything else other than being a patient.


There was some work to set up the system, which CoFi helps with, but once it’s set up, it’s done. We don’t need to circle back or maintain anything in CoFi unless our fees change.


We’ve also benefited from CoFi’s integration with CareCredit. That makes patient financing a lot easier. Our ASC hadn’t established a CareCredit account, so the CoFi-CareCredit integration was very helpful. All the ASC had to do was join CoFi, and our patients were able to use CareCredit to pay both our practice and the ASC at once.


4. What would you say to other ophthalmology practices considering CoFi?


When it comes to managing payments for your practice and an ASC, CoFi makes patient payments so much easier. If your accounting team is already stretched thin keeping up with the day-to-day, this type of system really streamlines that process. Plus, the team is very friendly at CoFi and easy to work with.
